Just wondering what the Fountain of Youth is like. I see it's in the Jacksonville area but since I never see anyone talking about it, I gather that it's not at all exciting.

Actually the Fountain of Youth is a major tourist attraction in St. Augustine.

11 Magnolia Ave.
St. Augustine, Florida 32084
(904) 829-3168

It ranks right up there with these other ''tourist'' attractions in St Augustine something you go see once and thats it.
The Old Jail
The Oldest Wooden School House
Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum

Not to be confused with really great attractions like;
Castillo de San Marcos,
Lightner Museum,
St Augustine Lighthouse,
Mission of Nombre de Dios,
Fort Menendez at the Old Florida Museum,
Fort Matanzas,
and Washuington Gardens State Park.

Save the visit to the Fountain of Youth for a later trip after you have seen all the great attractions listed by Madcap.

I saw Fountain of Youth as a kid once, and that was 20something years ago. Haven't been back. I think it's one of those old "off-the-highway" style cheesy tourist attractions. From what I've read, its historic significance is questionable. But once you've seen all the cool stuff, it might be worth it just to say you've seen it. Kinda like Ripley's.

It's pure kitsch, but hey, if you've got a half hour to kill in St. Augustine between the more established attractions, hey, knock yourself out.

Interesting thing about the Fountain of Youth....multiple places in Florida claim to be the site of the "real" Fountain of Youth, including Florida's springs. Those definitely are worth a visit. One such fabled "Fountain of Youth" is DeLeon Springs, about 10 miles north of DeLand.

If I remember correctly the little gift shop/chapel at the Mission Nombre de Dios has a small fountain, that some say is the fountain of youth in a courtyard there also. Maybe it's a branch location, as it isn't to far from the "Fountain of Youth" down the street.
