I'm thinking of moving to Jacksonville sometime this year; not certain when but I have a few questions for people that either live there or around the area (Northside, Westside, Eastside - doesn't matter). I am a former business student coming from NY (where there is high cost and no jobs to cover them) so is Jacksonville a better bet?? I've been out of work for a while so I'm pretty desperate. I also have a daughter attending pre-K, so I am leaning more towards a family-friendly neighborhood; hopefully not much crime. Any help in this topic would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Well, costs aren't high so that's definitely different. From what I can tell there is not an abundance of jobs; much like everywhere else in the country. I'm sure there are far fewer job searchers than NY as well though.

According to this site (updated as of Dec 2011: Unemployment Rates for Metropolitan Areas) Jacksonville has at least a percentage points worse unemployment than anywhere listed in NY so I certainly wouldn't be hinging your move on finding employment once you get here.

we have lived in varies parts of city and never had a problem. lived in Avondale, St. Johns avenue no problem, Hogan road, no problem, Southside Blvd. no problems, N. Ocean Street downtown, Monument Road no problem, I notice one thing about Jacksonville, fl. don't take some people to people from the north it is a city that has become very diverse, apts. never a problem there are thousands. It depends on where and how much you want to pay. There are pros and cons on the areas. Jobs I don't know the city is beautiful.
