Hello. I'm taking Megabus into Jacksonville for Labor Day Weekend. I will be staying downtown near the convention center. I do not plan on renting a car but I would like to find a place to go out at night, some seafood and I wanted to know if Jacksonville had public transportation to the beach? Thanks!

Yes there is JTA bus service to the beach from the Rosa Parks transfer station. (about 1 mile from the Prime Osborn Convention Center)
The Landing has a lot of different kinds of restaurants. (located about 3/4 of a mile from the Prime Osborn Convention Center)
Benny's Steak and Seafood is probably the best choice for a quality seafood dinner at the Landing.

Downtown JAX near the convention center seems like an odd choice for a Labor Day weekend stay here. I assume you're planning to go to the game Thursday night. But - after the game - unless you have planned to do things with friends - I would probably move to a place at the beaches. Robyn

I didn't know there were any lodging options in Downtown JAX near the convention center. But decided to not comment on the fact. I do know that's where the Megabus drops of and picks up from though. There is also the SkyWay X-Press Station there to get to the Rosa Parks's Bus terminal, to catch the JTA bus to the beaches.

Perhaps the OP is talking about somewhere in the downtown area? Closer to the stadium. For the game. In any event - even if I were a huge downtown booster - I think downtown has to be pretty dead on Labor Day weekend. And that getting back and forth to the beaches by bus isn't a piece of cake. I took a quick look. There are rooms available at the beaches for Labor Day weekend - but they're not cheap. Perhaps the OP - who I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly) is a young single male - can hook up with at least 1 other guy (maybe more) and share an oceanfront room at the beaches for the weekend (Friday through Monday - the game is on Thursday). That's what I would do if I were in his situation. Robyn

I will be staying at the Omni Jacksonville Hotel…near the convention center a few blocks away from the Megabus stop.

I just wanted to get away for a few days. I don't plan on going to a lot of events, I just want to relax, go to the beach, eat some seafood, go out at night for a few hours and head back to Atlanta that Sunday.

The Omni is a good hotel and right across the street from the Jacksonville Landing. The Omni Hotel is .7 miles east of the Prime Osborn Megabus stop. Juliettes, the restaurant in the Omni Hotel is a realy fine dining experience.

Omni is the best hotel in downtown Jax, probably the entire city proper. Juliettes in the hotel is an excellent restaurant. Also plenty of bars within walking distance due east of Omni. You can enjoy the river easily, but the beach is gonna be a hike to get to.

From the Omni to Jax Beach is 17.5 miles which takes approx. 30 minutes to drive to in a car. By bus you are easily looking at least 1 hour with all the incidental stops, for people to get on and off.
