No. You just need to keep your gun locked in its box and out of reach when you are transporting it from place to place. I would just keep it in the box and in the trunk of your car when driving to and from the range.

The way I see some people drive and act - and knowing that they are carrying a gun is scary.
Anybody can be carrying a gun. Even in NYC or Wash DC, where its supposed be illegal (unless you have connections to get a permit). Someone that has a CCP is probably more law-abiding, trained and responsible than others. You should try joining a firearms club sometime. Great guys & gals to be with! Some of the best and most respectful people I've ever met are shooters.

You certainly don't have to. But from my experience (up in the socialist northeast ), getting a CCP may prove to be more difficult in the future. If you get it now, when your friendly government power gods start restricting it "for your own good", you're CCP will probably be "grandfathered" in.
Meaning, you'll be allowed to keep it since you've had it before they pass any restrictive laws.

Well, the Florida Dep of Licensing and Consumer Services states on their website that 599,154 licenses are active (including police, security officers, etc.) as of 2007.
Number of Licensees by Type - Division of Licensing, DOACS (http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/stats/licensetypecount.html - broken link)

The US Census Bureau estimates Florida population at 18,089,888 as of 2006.
Florida QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau

That comes out to 3.3% of folks have a CCP.
If you just look at the number of adults (19 and over) it would be 4.2%.

Don't misunderstand me. I am referring to other people who do not go through the proper channels but still carry guns without a permit.

I used to shoot at a club in Columbia, SC and it was like a brotherhood - just like golf is to me, now.
