My fiancee and I are planning to moving to Jax from Savannah. We love the landing/St John River Area. Any cheap apartments located near the area? Any neighborhoods nearby that are safe and decently priced? What about Springfield? We would prefer to live in a privately owned apartment or house but will live in a complex if it is the right one. We just love the area, have only one car so my fiancee will have to bus it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The move is set for the end of the year. Thanks in advance all

From what I've seen there aren't really any major complexes in Riverside, San Marco or Springfield. Springfield would probably be the least expensive followed by Riverside and then San Marco. Riverside and San Marco are closer to the river than Springfield is. And all three communities seem to have equally decent bus service for Jacksonville, which isn't saying all that much.

Bus it where? Downtown? I had a 1 Bedroom in Avondale for 575 and the landlord provided satellite TV and internet for another 50. About 800 sq feet although he said 900. From Craigslist. It also had off street parking in a concrete garage with no door. I'm not up on the bus service to downtown. A perfect neighborhood right on St Johns at the stores, a couple blocks from the river.

San Marco has the Skyway monorail train with three stations that goes downtown, here's the map and the choice of stations - Southbank Stations.

Here's a sample apartment on craigslist but it's a mile from the train so you want to be closer to i95 if she has to walk to the train, maybe around Cedar at Palm...or closer to one of the other two stations:

here's the google map train:

FANTASTIC 1 BEDROOM 1 BATH SECOND FLOOR APT

There are always apartments in about 10 duplexes right near this apt but directly ON RIVER ROAD between Laverne and Landon with a great river view and affordable. But it's a hike to the train. Up closer at Cedar or so would cut a half mile off. I don't know about busses.

BTW it rains every day in Jax at 3:30 at least - I am not walking to public transit in a skirt in lightening LOL.

Springfield has a wide range of apartments and houses from the 500.00 range up to 1000.00-1500.00. A very diverse community that depending on where you are is no farther than 20 blocks from the river and the Jacksonville Landing. Mom and Pop coffee shops, restaurants and cafes scattered about it with a nice bar district downtown on the other side of Main Street from the landing.
