We'll be moving soon and would like to have a water softener that we buy ourselves installed on our existing loop. Does anyone have a plumber/handyman recommendation who could do this? The Google machine just points me to the Culligans of the world, and that's not the direction we want to go. I suspect it's simple for someone who knows what they're doing, but plumbing work makes both of us shiver in fear just a little.

Did you ask your builder if they had anyone? Sometimes they have good contacts. You could also see if the people who did the house could do the install for you.

I don't have a plumber specifically but for future reference I have had great experiences with Roto Rooter in the downtown metro area (downtown/Riverside/Avondale/San Marco).

As a pet sitter I deal with a ton of emergency services and saw the truck at my building The Strand so I thought well if THEY can use them they can't be all that bad. And sure enough when I called them several times for problems they were good. Who knew?

At one house I had an enormous backup of toxic waste sewage all over the first floor and Roto Rooter did a fantastic job and also referred me to toxic waste specialists for the cleanup.

If you look on google they have very high marks, too. Like a 4.7 rating.
