As every year every where, crime is higher in the summer.

Most homicides involve drugs: using, selling, or buying.

If you're not involved with/ hang out with people that do these things, then you do not have to worry about getting shot.

If you do, well, anything could happen.

no surprise on St. Augustine. Preying on the tourists and drugs drives that one.

"Per capita" - couldn't those #s be skewed quite a bit due to the huge drop in population from Jax to St. Augustine?

There hasn't been a huge drop. Both areas continue to grow.

Jacksonville had a population of 836,507 in 2012. While
St Augustine had a population of 13,407 in 2012. Most
normal people would call that a huge drop in population,
between the two cities.

You misunderstood. I'm comparing populations in Jax vs. St Augustine, not saying the population has dropped in each city.

And there you have it. I'm too lazy to do the math, but you'd have to see 500 crimes in Jax to get the same "per capita" crime stat St. Augustine. My #s are not right, but you get it.

I dont think its a good idea to do an blanket analysis of "crime." You have to compare the regions by type of crime. People getting DUI's in Jax beach is a no brainer. However murder, stabbings, domestic abuse and shootings by region would put Jax in the lead.
