I am recently married and planning to start a family soon. I commute daily from Clay County to Jacksonville so any doctor between the two would work. We don't have many friends that have has children yet so we are concerned that we might make a wrong decision. We are looking for a family doctor and also an OBGYN. I currently have a doctor from NF Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates but feel the need for a second opinion before I start trying to conceive. I am also looking for references of what hospital to give birth at...I know the doctor play a large role in this as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Happy 2008!

I really like the internists and OBGYNs at Baptist South off 94 and Old St. Aug.

If you like a more natural childbirth (a "crunchy" type), I've heard many recommendations for Dr. Kimberly Van Scrieber on Salisbury. There's also a midwife with a birthing center called Fruitful Vine.

I also used NFL OBGYN and absolutely LOVED one of the doctors there...Dr. Greenhaw. The only problem with going with a practice like that is you never know who will be on call when you go into labor. Thankfully, Dr. Greenhaw came on duty 2 hours after I went into labor and was able to deliver my daughter.

At that time (Dec 2004), Baptist South wasn't open so I delivered downtown and was quite pleased with everything. However, I also delivered on Christmas and was the only one in labor for most of the day. The room was comfortable and had nice recliners for visitors. My daughter had to go to the NICU for a while after she was born and I was so glad it was at that hospital. For it being such an incredibly stressful time, the nurses and doctors made me more at ease.

We chose Carithers Pediatric Group and the doctors there are fabulous. They are friendly and took a good bit of time during each appointment to talk to your baby. As my daughter got older, she liked it so much that she would constantly ask to go back. Any time I have called, they called right back...being a new mom, that happened a lot. Another plus, at least in my book, they offered several suggestions over the phone and didn't make me go to their office every time there was a small problem.
