Hey Jacksonville, I'm an aspiring poet out of Hamlet NC that is going to move soon to Jacksonville. I will be moving in with my aunt over there and just wondering about the poetry scene down there. My town doesn't have a poetry scene so I had to travel a good distance for that and unfortunately was never able to flourish due to not having a car and not having anyone to travel with. I heard Jax has a pretty good poetry scene in which venues are suited for spoken word poetry?

Thanks. I know Jax is known for being more traditional compared to the other major Florida cities, but it's also pretty big into the artsy side of things. I would definitely look into those areas you listed.

Seriously though, some of those results should lead you in the right direction. I imagine in the areas YMO mentioned they will have a few regular events going (perhaps CORK, rain dogs, yellow house, da real ting) and then try contacting student groups at UNF and JU. If you are stuck in the burbs there's still a chance something is happening out there too. Sorry it's not my area though so can't tell you specifically.

Oh, and actually google it. I was being a smartass and I see going through lmgtfy doesn't yield quite the same results.

it's fine, but thank you. I actually looked up Rain Dogs and Real Ting, both seem pretty chill. I will be with my aunt on the Northside so I will be in Jacksonville proper. Most of the poetry stuff Iooked up in Jax happens once a month so glad you found something more frequent. My move in day will be September 19th btw.
