Piling it on eh.

What was the term on this dealership's Tire for Life "Warranty." If the exact warranty terms wasn't followed then they're under no obligation to replace the tire, essentially voided the warranty. Just like any other consumer products with warranty, companies put terms and conditions just hoping for consumer to screw one up to void the warranty.
Second, this program's strictly a profit maker to begin with, they charge you for the required tire balance/rotation which is what, around $20 a pop? By the time your tired needed replacement, you already paid for it through those services.
Many warehouse clubs and some local tire shops does it for FREE if you bought the tire there.
Coggin wanted to meet you half way so they can milk more service money from you.
If you got enough miles on the tire, go elsewhere and get a better, cheaper priced set of tires.

However, I'm interested to know what lawyers would say about this.

Unhappy It's amazing how ignorant some consumers are....

I have replaced the tires on two 4 Runners in the last 6 months. The cost, including installation, was $700 for the first set and $500 for the second set (because of a "buy 3 get 4th tire free" deal and the fact that they were a different brand). That being said, how can anyone say that paying $100 for installation on a "tires for life plan" is a money maker for the dealer and a loss for the consumer. The purpose of this program is customer retention, which should be the most important thing for any business. Also, if you keep coming back for tires, you may just come back for other services.
