We are considering relocating for a job in Hilliard and we are wondering where a good place to live would be. We are coming from Northern Virginia and do not want a rural setting. We have young children so good schools, low crime and family friendly neighborhoods are a priority

We would prefer to keep the commute to 45 minutes or less. Our budget for the new house is up to $400K.

If anyone could help point us in the right direction that would be great!

Hilliard is pretty rural no matter what part of it you live in, probably the area that meets your needs the most would be Fernandina/Amelia Island, FL. The schools in Nassau county are A rated. Two of the best communities in your price range would be North Hampton Golf Club and Amelia National Golf Club. From the middle of Hilliard to these two golf course communities is about 25 miles, or a 30 minute drive

Thank you for the help! In my research I had discovered that Hilliard would be too rural for us and had started looking into Fernandina Beach. I will look into the Amelia Island area as well. Thanks again!

North Hampton or Amelia National would save you on commute since they are really in the Yulee area (but have Fenandina Beach addresses) and closer to Hilliard than Fernandina. They are both nice communities where you can find a house for under $400,000.

Thank you for the additional information. I will look into those areas. We are very spoiled where we currently live because my husbands current commute is 10 minutes. I know we won't find that down there without living in Hilliard (which I won't do) so we are trying to find the next best options.

Can anyone tell me about Yulee? Is it very rural? Are there any Target's, Best Buy's, grocery stores and other type of stores or pretty much nothing but homes?

I know its just outside of Fernandina Beach and even some of the homes in Fernandina Beach are zoned for the Yulee Elementary, Middle, and High School.

I am just wondering how far out of Fernandina Beach we can go and still get some civilization besides just subdivisions with nothing else there.

Yulee has a Target, a super Walmart (island has a little Walmart), Petco, Lowe's, Home Depot, Publix, Chili's, Panera, Chik Fil A etc. Yulee also has a very nice local grocery store called The Savory Market, not far off the island.

You'd have to go to St. John's Town Center for more "mall" type shopping.
