My employer is considering a relocation for me to the Jacksonville/St. Augustine area. My wife and I (both 27 years old) currently live in Wrightsville Beach, NC and LOVE it. I would be working 3 days in Jax and 1 in St Augustine a week. We currently live on the Intracoastal and are very active with water activities. We currently don't have children, but do have 2 large breed dogs. We would like a single family home with a budget of $2850. Our top priority is water access, the type of water access where we are there in no more than 5 minutes on a bike! So far my colleagues familiar with the area have recommended Ponte Vedra Beach and Jacksonville Beach. If anyone on this forum has been to Wrightsville/ILM area and can provide some input it would be very much appreciated.

Don't rule out Neptune or Atlantic Beach either, they are still part of Jacksonville. Downtown Jacksonville beach has gotten a little rowdy for my taste, but you're still young, so it may just be right up your alley.

Good luck with your move!

Welcome to Jax Beach, home of Salt Life!
Anyway, I think you can find something anywhere along the beaches areas in your price range. Like SS said, Neptune and Atlantic are great options too, while Jax Beach is the youngest and most vibrant (i.e., party central)
With the river and creeks, in addition to intracoastal and ocean, there's tons of cheap waterfront and water activities everywhere.
