The scenic trip on the waters of the Amelia River and the St. Marys River is expected to take about 45 minutes at a cost of $13 to $14 for a round trip ticket.

This sounds like it will be great. If anyone has any more specific info, please share!

what kind of water tax is this? can you drive the car onto it?
and most importantly, what to do on either side of the destination ?

I don't think it's an auto ferry. Just a taxi.... meaing you'll be on foot when arriving in FB or STM. Not a big deal as both are very walkable.

hm, so is this type of taxi new to that part of the river? have to wonder how scenic it will be to worth the $14 and 45mins, compared to just drive there and not worry about missing the last boat.
love the comments on that page though.

The McCarthys are really good guys. Seriously.
The water taxi sounds like a pleasant thing to do. And I agree that you really don't need a car in either place.
The comments on the link crack me up, too.

The $14 seems a lil steep...but whatever. it's a nice little ride. I used to live in St. Marys and I am an avid boater. Made this trip many times, only about about 30 minutes quicker..lol

Riders will see nice coastal views....possibly submarines transiting in and out of port....Ft. Clinch and wild horses roaming the beaches of Cumberland island...

Definately more entertaining than the drive between the 2 towns...

Default Where's the romance?

$14 is round trip. And haven't you ever heard that getting there is half the fun? C'mon.....!

A new guy would get serious cupid points for taking me on a date via water taxi. (Not trolling, just giving another opinion!)

Is there some new guy we haven't heard about, HIF?

But back to the water taxi.......

I agree, this sounds fun. THIS is what I'd like to see in mass transit for Jax - going from destination to destination.

(the definition of "destination" as in 'it's a great place to go and hang out')

No, no new guy, no old guy...no guy But when I do get back into the game, I'm takin' my guy on the water taxi to St. Mary!

Might be a good CD day trip, though. We can have it for Lawstudent's going away party.
