I live by the hodges blvd and got an opportunity from Fedex. The distance is so long. Basically you travel all Jax . The job is permanent PT and the pay is good with benefits after 90days . Do you take it or leave it?

I uploaded a pic to see the distance....

What would keep you anchored to your current living situation? How much money, each month, would you save by living in a cheaper part of town? Yes, it will be cheaper over there, but you'd obviously be giving up your current proximity to the beach, major shopping places, entertainment, etc.

I am looking for a job actively but this long commute is what makes me back off a bit. Living by major restaurant is great but having a car is what makes it easy no matter where you at. I used to go to the beach but not anymore, it's not important for me.

My commute is a similar distance and time as that. I don't mind it as my job is worth it.

I will say though in the morning that stretch up I-95 to I-10 and in the afternoon from I-95 to Butler can be brutal.

I have a coworker whose husband does the same commute and he seems to be fine with it. It's probably going to depend on what your hours are and whether you are stuck having to do the really peak rush hour times. I work with a lot of people who do the opposite commute and they tend to come in slightly off times (arrive before 8 or closer to 9) to stay away from the peak traffic. If it's absolutely a requirement you work 8-5, that might make it a dealbreaker.

I agree with Ramen. My husband drives from Nocatee to just south of where you're heading (Normandy/10/295 area) and he's OK with it. But, he works 4 day weeks and is leaving the house in the morning shortly after 5. His commute home isn't fun, but the easy drive there makes it worth it for him.

I think Eric also asks some very good questions. Is this a job that would be worth moving for? If not, then you'll need to deal with the commute should you decide to take it. If it is, then you would save some rent and transportation costs by moving west.

Wouldn't you be working as a driver anyway? So what is another 30-40 minutes in the car? FedEx is a good company if you can get hired on, especially for someone without a college degree. If I remember correctly, you have bounced around various jobs, including pizza delivery. Make the sacrifice for the time being, see if it's a good fit, then change your living situation if need be. FedEx would give you a good salary and benefits.

^That's correct. But my car stopped running due to blown head gasket...

I do have my GED but not college degree.
This new job is a courier and the hours ranges between 20-25 hrs from 3-8pm M-F. I believe it's not worth it since I can not find a decent rental(single male) on west side. Aside of moving to W.. I heard that West side is the most unrest/unsafe area in Jacksonville according to new4jax and what not...

Can employer read these kind of articles on websites?
