My family has been considering a move to the SJC area for a while now, and have two specific questions...

1) In neighborhoods like Nocatee, Durbin, etc what is the general age of the families. For example, is it mostly couples having children later (40+) with their first kids, or on the younger side? To give some perspective we have been in neighborhoods where couples with 10 year olds were 50-60, and neighborhoods where 10 year olds had 30-40 year old parents. I certainly understand and appreciate there is a range, but what is the general feel in the area?

2) utilities like water and electricity, what do you pay monthly for a 3,000 sq ft home? We were unpleasantly surprised by the high water cost in our current neighborhood.

Can't answer your first question (not familiar with those neighborhoods - families with kids in our neighborhood tend to be on the younger side).

When it comes to the second - power/water bills will depend a lot on usage (and the rates a particular company charges). Who's in the house and for how long. For example - if everyone leaves in the morning and comes back in the late afternoon - you can adjust your thermostat to run cooler in the winter during those hours - and hotter in the summer. My husband and I are retired. And - although we're not here 24/7 - we aren't gone on a predictable basis for the most part. Our electric bill (in an all electric house with 2800 sf under A/C) runs about $4200/year. With monthly bills ranging from about $260 (spring/fall) to about $425 (August). We keep the AC at 76 - and the heat at 71.

The water bill will usually vary depending on your irrigation needs. Rainfall too. And the rates a particular company charges. We have about 3/4 acre under irrigation. And our water bill averages about $150/month (lows < $100 and highs > $200).

Our companies are Beaches Energy Services and St. Johns County Utility Department. Robyn

2) We're little over 2,800 sqft, no pool and our electrical bill (no gas) spiked to $280 in January/Feb and July/August. September was $180 and October will be about $150. My wife works from home so the house is at a comfortable temperature year round (76/77 in summer and 71 in winter). Our water bill averages about $120/mth on approx 1/4 acre property.

I don't live in either area but have visited numerous times and no folks in both areas. I would say many parents with kids are in the normal 30's and 40's. Just visit any of the area parks where baseball and soccer teams are packing in each weekend and there are TONS of young parents out there (maybe wondering how in the heck did they get there...lol).
