I thought I'd share this link in case no one heard about it:

Police: Dogs Trained For Fighting Seized - Jacksonville News Story - WJXT Jacksonville (http://www.news4jax.com/news/15862130/detail.html - broken link)

Certainly after the Michael Vick case, we all know that this bloodsport knows no economic boundaries - it really can happen anywhere, so it's good to be aware if you see something suspicious.

One comment in the article bears repeating - the neighbors heard some sounds, but they did not hear what they thought dogfighting should sound like. Pit bulls especially make little to no sounds when they are fighting, it's just one of their traits, so if you suspect someone is fighting dogs, you may not necessarily hear sounds coming from the location...it's just good to know that .

Here is a good link with information on the subject:

Dogfighting Fact Sheet | The Humane Society of the United States (http://www.hsus.org/hsus_field/animal_fighting_the_final_round/dogfighting_fact_sheet/ - broken link)

It's also good to know that there are Animal Ordinance laws in Jacksonville regarding the chaining of dogs - the type of chain, weight of chain, length of chain and access to shelter, food and water are all specified in our laws.

It happens here in all the counties, so we all need to be aware .

Too bad they can't put those scum bags in a ring with those dogs!

Well that wont do a bit of good as trained pitbulls are trained to fight other dogs not to bit/fight people!! Do you think the FEDS will get as involved in this ring as they did Vicks case?

It sounds too small potatoes for the Feds. Sounds like they got a tip, got a warrant and found the usual , case closed. That's how the article reads anyway.

Thanks JBM, I'd like to do something with those guys too .

It's just one of those things that can be so well hidden - it's hard to imagine that dogfighting could be going on inside the house down the block, or a crystal meth lab, or whatever, but it happens, and sometimes in the neighborhoods you'd least expect. It's good to know the signs, just in case.
