Looking to move to the Gainesville area--under 30-minute commute to UF. Any help on best areas for families? Would love to be near a great middle and high school. Open to condo/town home but prefer single-family homes in the 3-4 bedroom range. Can afford up to 400K.

Ellis Park was recommended. I liked the homes but the neighborhood felt so crowded. Other suggestions?

Yes, Ellis Park is pretty but I agree, lots are small. An older development, Broadmoor, is near Ellis Park & is zoned for the same middle & high school. We rented in Arbor Greens, around the corner from Broadmoor, same school system, lovely homes, but some lots are small--main reason we didn't buy there. However, I don't think it's quite as crowded looking as Ellis Park.

Across the street from Arbor Greens is the Jockey Club. Nice homes on 1 acre lots--very pretty. Next door to Jockey Club is Town of Tioga development--my favorite. Absolutely gorgeous, but for your price range, you would probably have to settle for a small lot. All these subdivisions are zoned for Fort Clarke Middle and Buchholz High School (same as Ellis Park).

We finally bought in Haile Plantation, zoned for Kanapaha Middle and Buchholz. Lots of homes in your price point here.

Just as an FYI, although Buchholz has the best all around rep, in talking with my neighbors, many sent their teenagers to Eastside HS due to its tremendous IB program. Just something to consider.

Good luck! Gainesville, especially the SW and NW sides, are very family friendly.
