We have made an offer on a house in this development. Does anyone know if this development is well constructed? There is a lake in the back. Does that increase the chances of alligators ? Also what are the chances of devastation from a hurricane or flooding here? Also what type of flowers and shrubs do well her? Thank you

Don't know much about the construction but just by looking at the location of Deerfield Meadow, you'll be fine as far as hurricanes or flooding is concerned. Let's put it this way, we live about a mile from the beach in Ponte Vedra Beach and would evacuate to where you would be located or anywhere west of the ditch (Intercoastal Waterway). We evacuated for both Matthew and Irma. Matthew was our 1st experience with hurricanes (outside of Sandy in NJ) and we over did it by going to Atlanta, never again. For Irma, we stayed at the Doubletree at the airport which is what we'll do again if another storm comes this way.

Leave the alligators alone and they'll leave you alone. Unless you're fishing the retention pond, there's no reason to be hanging around by the water's edge.

Thank you. We are from New Jersey shore. During Sandy, our house at the water come into the garage, but nothing further. Those north of us though had houses demolished. I have told that we are in flood zone x and don’t need flood insurance at Deerfield Meadows

1. Hit and miss - hire a private inspector!
2. Yes, by about 100% compared to lakes in NJ
3. 50/50 during hurricane season
4. Sand spurs, crabgrass, sea oats

All fresh bodies of water in Florida are likely to attract alligators. This is their favored habitat, and they belong here, living on this peninsula for many years before humans arrived and displaced them. Don't let your kids play near the lake, or walk a dog there, or feed the alligators. Have lived in Florida for over 40 years, always on fresh water "retention ponds" and have seen alligators in every one. Never bothered me, I don't bother them (or feed them or get too close.)

Regarding flowers and shrubs, familiarize yourself with Florida native plants. Google Florida Native Plant Society for ideas and to join if you want. Planting native trees, shrubs, and ground covers will yield lots of birds and butterflies, helping your new wildlife neighbors! Good luck
