Downtown Jax needs a big draw like a casino. Yes, a casino! The city is too huge, ya gotta give people a reason to drive for miles and miles from the burbs. Keeping bars open late or putting a band in the park at night aint gonna do it. Neither will a transit system. But a casino will pull people in (and bucks) from far the way it does in every other city where you got slots. Yeah, yeah, yeah I know, Jax is much too conservative. That's what they said about certain ultra- conservative cities, e.g. Bethlehem, Pittsburgh before the machines rolled in. Let's face it, we don't have a Disney or a Busch Gardens, we're a plain vanilla town and we need some bold legislation. All we seem to do is carp about boring downtown Jax but no bold ideas. That's the reason I didn't want to piggyback on Love Jax so far, buuuttttt.......

Well, it would get the prostitutes off the street and indoors .

I dunno, can Jax pull off a casino? You've seen our past attempts, such as Sun Cruz Casinos, right? Nasty, trashy, filthy, sad....

Now if it was a Vegas-esque casino like The Bellagio, we'd have something going on :

Las Vegas Hotels - Bellagio

When I visited a friend in Nashville some years back, she took me to The Grand Ole Oprey. Neither of us are interested in country music, but they had a cool bar and we walked around the hotel lobby's large atrium and just enjoyed the people watching. So it was a destination, even if we weren't there for the main attraction...so I get where you're going with this Cricket.

Do it before we retire and move there, please. We love playing Blackjack! I play Holdem at our local casino.

Actually one of the biggest "nos" for the southeast is a lack of gambling. I understand the problems inherent in having casinos, but I think the majority of gamblers are like us and enjoy it without getting carried away.

We don't think it will either! But, it sure is a drive to Tampa Bay or to Buloxi to go to a casino!

We don't have any Indian reservation land in JAX right? Without it, there will never be any casino here. Besides, law needs to be changed to have allow casino, it was tough just to get poker rooms started.

I believe the state Senate recently passed a bill allowing "Las Vegas Style" casinos in Florida. The permit I believe is about $400 million! I also believe 3 or 4 casinos have filed for the permit. I will try to find the article, but this was last monthish that it occured. My guess is I miss read the article if no one else is chiming in about this, but my jaw hit the floor while I was reading it. Perhaps because it was just the Senate and not the House as well.

I think the bill was geared more towards Seminoles built casinos. And few other race track operated casinos

Hello all!

I would think that all you needed was the money to do it. So is it law that only Seminole People can open a casino in Florida? I don't gamble but I know people with lots of money!
