Someone has cleared the property just west of the railroad tracks on RaceTrack Rd, adjacent to Phillips Hwy. They've also cleared the spot of land next to the Poker Room on the other side of Cypress Trace. Anyone know what they're doing?

I don't know any details, sorry.

However, with an off-shoot of the Nocatee Freeway being built on the other side of the street, expect a LOT more development in the future. Lots of gas stations and strip malls for all the people driving home to Nocatee from work in Jax.

I'm not highly familiar with that area, so looking at it on google didn't help me, so I wasn't very successful with the property appraiser's info.

I used the site and plugged in race track rd as the search and came up with a giant list, picked one of them, and then clicked "click here to see map" to get my bearings. The lot of land that has been cleared that you're asking about may have a Phillips and not a Race Track address. Once you find that lot of land, you can click on the PIN link for the property and the appraisal will come up (owner, etc.)

I'm not having any luck even assigning an address. The property search only works with an address. I'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

The land that's been cleared - is it north of Race Track (Duval County) or south (St Johns County)?

South side of Race Track Rd. I finally found the address online. It's owned by Bayard Timberland Co, which is owned by the same company that owns the poker room. I found a document online from 2003 that says the land is zoned commercial, but I haven't been able to find anything that says what it's going to be used for.

I drove by the property this morning and noticed that they had tilled up some of the land and mowed down so brush, but it was not cleared like it was about the be developed. They left the pine trees (even the very small ones) untouched. There is a CB Richard Ellis for sale sign closer to the corner of Racetrack and US1...I could be wrong, but it's my assumption that they just cleaned up the property a bit to keep in looking good for a potential buyer.

tree4309 - you're probably correct. The only info I could scour up about the property went back to 2006 - presuming no changes in ownership or zoning etc since then, the property was supposed to be a PUD called Centex at Bayard. With the economy as it is, and with Centex being acquired by Pulte (I think), I'm guessing the PUD project was not just placed on a back burner, but was taken off the stove altogether. Thus, the land on the market.
