Seems unusual given the current economic failures to have that many new vehicles parked at an airport runway.

Look: 29.974502, -81.662114 - Google Maps (http://tinyurl.com/28paoa9 - broken link)

Remember to zoom-in for the full scope of this

Any explanation?

Jax is one of the largest ports for the import of Korean cars.

As the thread which Chh2 linked to explains, they are Kias. It's probably the distribution site for that entire model, which is why they are the same. They hauled the cars from Jaxport out to Green Cove, and then ship them out to dealerships via truck.

Just a guess, but maybe the bad economy is why they needed the storage space - because demand wasn't keeping up with production? Bing Maps shows the runways completely empty, so obviously it's not a constant situation.

It seems this photo is gaining some fame on the internet rumor-mill.

Some people have become convinced that these vehicles are UN vans, being stored on an air force base for some unknown reason.

Conspiracy theorists mistake Kia storage site for U.N. takeover of Florida — Autoblog

The guy that owns the industrial park got so many calls about this photo that he had to beef up security to keep out curiosity-seekers. He said that Kia needed extra storage space during the big auto sales slump, and these were shipped down from the Brunswick port to be stored. Thanks in part to the cash-for-clunkers program, they were all eventually sold.

Clay Today | UN 'takeover' turns out to be thousands of Kias (http://www.claytoday.biz/content/2381_1.php - broken link)

Now other automakers have shown some interest. In fact, there may be a possibility of BMW locating a vehicle processing plant there.

Possibly good news for Green Cove Springs!

BTW: Did you know that Vector Motors, a builder of super-cars, was once located there during the mid 90's? Now that would be a cool industry to have in the Jacksonville area!
