What % of the time have you been offered the job from your experience?

Over the past 30 years I have interviewed 10 times. 6 of the interviews resulted in job offers. Of the remaining 4 interviews, 2 went well but I withdrew my name from consideration before a decsion was made. Of the remaining 2 interviews, 1 went well. The other was a disaster.

Of the 6 job offers, 4 were entry level type jobs that required no past experience. 1 required either past experience or a college degree in the field (I had the college degree). The remaining job (my current job) required a lot of experience, which I had.

Can't say exact numbers for myself. There have been interviews I felt where great but then heard nothing. Others where it was OK and then got an offer. Best thing is to also ( if you already employed and looking ) is to remember you are also interviewing them. Not in an obvious manner but you want a feel for the place. How the people treat you when you arrive, etc. Even the person giving the interview...could be a great opportunity but the guy/girl acts like a jerk. Who wants to work for that?? There have been some interviews I knew it was going downhill but try to trust your gut instinct. Good luck with your search!

Agreed, it all depends. Back in my younger days when I was candid, I thought I did well all the time. Only much later did I realize that I came off as too eager.

Some of the interviews I thought went well, never heard a peep from the company.

Most that I thought were lousy, were indeed lousy. One time, I was certain the HR was drafting my rejection letter during the interview (I received it in the mail the next day!).

The recent ones last 7-8 years, when I felt I did well, I got the job every time.

To add on to Nick's question

How long does it usually take an employer to reach you for an offer? I had an interview on monday and have yet to hear back.

Not unusual mrmondaynight. Sometimes it takes a week or two. I usually ask after the interview about the timelines. If nothing early next week, feel free to call. Good luck!

If you got it, you got it. Otherwise, all of the worrying and speculating in the world won't increase your chances. But I can still understand how you feel.
