I was called about 2 weeks ago by someone at a promotion company who wanted to meet at a coffee shop for an interview/chat about a potential job. Now I knew the company was a startup company that promoted local bands, but I gave them the benefit of a doubt that they were going to be professional and that they were just in the early stages. I drive an hour and a half to the interview and I sit down in the coffee shop at 12 pm (actually 11:55) and no one shows up. I waited until 1 and still no one. I called both the person who called me and left a message and I also called the "CEO" and left a message. That was a week and a half ago and I haven't received a call back. I also emailed them. Haven't received an email back. Is there some way I can report them? I don't understand why they would go out of their way to ask me to interview if they were just going to blow me off! If they didn't want me to interview, they could have just never called me! I am fuming and I need to do something to end their unprofessional business practices so that it doesn't happen to anyone else. They can't just treat people this way and they are too cowardly to return my phone calls and tell me what happened. Giving someone hope for a potential job in this economy and then blowing them off and never giving them any explanation is completely heartless.
Please note that I normally am inclined to disagree with this poster, but nearly everyone and their mom are giving themselves a "CEO" title, even if they haven't paid for their business license(only 1,000).
They will probably be caught doing business without a permit soon. I've seen it in court before.
Who are you going to report them to - the fictional police of Neverland? Just get over it and move on. There are plenty of irresponsible people out there.
Only interview at a coffee shop should be for working at said coffee shop. I don't get why its acceptable to use another business to conduct business.
Lots of business is conducted in restaurants and coffee shops! Ever heard of the tax deductions for business meetings conducted in restaurants? I've made a lot of money, based on meetings in coffee shops - I've gotten jobs, pitched projects, brainstormed... It's done all the time!
To the OP, they blew it and forgot to show up - and they didn't return your phone calls because there is NO chance of a good working relationship with you at this point. There's no need to interview you, so they didn't call you back. They blew it, and so they moved on. It's sucky, but you can't make them apologize, and you can't punish them. I think the advice above to move on, is good advice.

Exactly. The smart thing to do would have to touch base with the person you were supposed to meet with the day before and made sure it was still on.
Two weeks is a long time to go without contact, before I would get in the car and drive so far I would reconfirm a casual meeting at a coffee shop.
If I didn't hear back from the person either through an email or or a phone call I wouldn't have bothered.
Coffee shop interview = complete utter waste of time

I've seen some Bed, Bath, & Beyond women(2) trying to hire on this girl who seemed a bit touched(overly shy or damaged) at the Starbucks in Barnes & Noble next door.
I wonder how that went, because they basically coached her through it. If I had a job interview like that, whooot.
Interviewer 1: What is 48/2(9+3)?
Me: 288
Interviewer 2: Good job!
Interviewer 1: Are you a leader or a follower?
Me: I'm more of a go between.
Interviewer 2: Hey, this lady is trying to give you a job, an she needs o know that you have leadership potential.
Me: Leader.
I'd swear, that is exactly how the interview went as I listened in. They had the notebooks out, her application in hand, and other things that clued me in.
Only time I've seen that.
Only other time you will see that is with a business in someone's home.
