Lets also be realistic. Do you honestly believe that everyone that applied was qualified? How many of them may have just filled out the app to fulfill their unemployment requriements?

I doubt everyone who applied at Mcdonalds was desperate. How many of them were students looking for part time work?

Your assumption is that everyone applying wanted and needed the work which is with out a doubt wrong.

Whats wrong with high schoolers and students looking for a part time job, that is after all what jobs like mcdonalds are for. Im sure there are people that applied to fulfill unemployment requirements but thats a hell of a gamble, if I did not want to work and wanted to stay on unemployment I would apply for jobs I knew I had little odds of getting becuase if I was offered the mcdonalds job I would have a hard time explaining why I turned it down.

Qualified to flip burgers and fry french fries? Umm, hello. McFly, anyone home? McDonald's is about as entry level as it gets. Tell me one job that is below a McJob (non-management)? Do they need to start at Taco Bell and work their way up to the big leagues? Haha.

So students looking for work don't count as "people" looking for work in your opinion?

My first post consisted of a couple questions, so no assumptions were made. I think the word you're looking for is "implication", but again, I was simply asking some questions for sake of discussion.

It's sad that in the richest country on earth there are a million people who would jump at a chance to work at McDonalds. Notice also there wasn't any mention of people who were offered McJobs and then turned it down to work elsewhere.. it's as if it is assumed that anyone applying for these jobs has no real chance of having any better options.

Default Great commentary

OP I know what you mean. I had an interview at McD's today and this may be the fifth or sixth time I applied with them before I actually got to be interviewed. I think you can apply to McD's about once every thirty days. Oh and I have a college degree BTW but in this economy have been served up quite a slice of humble pie.

Qualified doesn't mean you can't do it. Maybe they couldn't read/write english. Maybe they had a wooden leg. Maybe they had no teeth. Maybe they had previous criminal background. There are many reasons you may not be qualified to work at Mcd's.

I never said students don't count. Your statement said that all these people were desperate for work. I am sure there was a large majority could have been high schoolers looking for extra money. I don't believe that the entire 1 million people that applied were desperate as you said.

Many NBA early entries will likely go undrafted - NCAA Basketball - Sporting News
Quote:
Of the 49 early-entry players who stayed in last year's draft, 17 went undrafted, leaving them with the choice of trying to play their way onto a team in training camp, hit the NBA Development League or go overseas.

That's right kids, 65% of the candidates who declared early entry for the NBA were drafted. We can only conclude that is harder to get a job at McDonalds (6%) than make the jump from college underclassman basketball player to the NBA. It is as simple as looking at the percentages.

At this rate, I'll be attending harvard AND playing in the NBA before I know it!

I know what you mean, I've got a college degree and would be happy as a pig in mud if I could get a $10/hr PT job somewhere. Its a pretty sad time in our lives when this is true, but its been this way for a while now, and shows no signs of getting better.
