Ok, so I got the offer from Job #1 and need help deciding on what to do. Job # 1 is 5 minutes from my house, EXTREMELY FLEXIBLE which is what I need with the kids, and the salary is the same as Job #2. Job #2 which I just interviewed for is 20 minutes from my house (35 during rush hour), not as flexible (requires some night and weekend work). Other considerations: the work I would be doing for Job # 1 is the complete opposite of what I was doing at my old job, so there will be a learning curve. Job# 2 is the exact same thing I've done in the past. What would you do?

Where's the dilemma? The learning curve?

I don't see the issue either. You need an employer who will flex and #1 will flex.

Seems obvious to pick job #1. Unless you are trying to stay on track with your career and don't want to deviate. But flexibility is very hard to find these days.

Job #1. There might be a learning curve but think about it, should you leave this job in the future, you'll be more rounded out.

Assuming everything else is equal I would chose Job 1 for all the reasons above PLUS it is opposite of what you were doing before so I would assume this complements your job skills/experience and will make you more employable in the future.

Unless you left something out, it's a no-brainer ... Job #1.

Maybe you're thinking job#2 is guaranteed to keep you in the position longer because of your knowledge and experience so you won't have to worry about a possible loss of the position. Whereas with job#1, after the trial period, there's always a chance that the company may go with someone else with more experience, which could make job#1 an unsure bet. So, perhaps you can try out job#1 and see if you think you'll last there. You may find it's not all that.

Of course, job#1 sounds way better and I vote for that one, and root for your learning the position and staying on a long time. I was just looking at it from a dilemna perspective.
