"Good ol days" is when I would walk into a business, have a pleasent conversation with the manager about my relavent skills and get hired on the spot.I would be told the application is just a formality and could quickly fill it out at orientation.500 competing apps, 8 essays about yourself, endless background checks, makes me want to join the underground economy.
An hour is nothing compared to the "old days" when you'd pore over newspaper ads and write a letter applying for positions. Letters that went into the postbox, not over cyberspace, and then you had to wait for an answer. One hour is a problem? Get over it. And if you get bumped off the internet application process because you don't have the minimum qualifications then why were you applying anyway? Weekend Traveler as always has so little to do to occupy time other than creating countless new threads.

Anyone checked out great debates? Wife's sister has a new problem. Wife's brother is next in line. He's either unemployed or attending an interview.

If it's too much "work" for you to spend some time filling out what an employer needs, I wouldn't want to hire you anyways. That sounds outright lazy and that you pretty much have zero enthusiasm for the job.
My recent job required time to write cover letters, resumes, get transcripts, a 3 hour interview with a manager/senior/hr, thank you letters, ect. They spent a lot of time and money recruiting me and will spend thousands training me.
I don't think we are saying it is too much work, but the work we have to do is redundant, unnecessary in this technological age. Computer robo screeners need to be banned, and human interaction needs to be a top priority. Just because I don't have enough key words in my reusme means u won't even look at me? That is ridiculous
They make you answer a bunch of questions about your personality and previous work/education experience. I came across those when I tried applying at fast food and retail locations. I'm not even trying to get a super elite position or make six figures. I'm just trying to get a normal job that high school grads get at those locations. I understand the personality test is for elite positions or for a six figure salary, but it's silly for those that are trying to get like cashier or janitor.
