And in order to increase workplace diversity we have hired females and African Americans who we would not have hired if they were white males, so it cuts both ways.
I don';t think you are required to hire any race or gender. I saw a company with 97% female out of 400 employee before. Yeah, there were less than 10 male in that company.
I was in a IT company few year's back, they had no black or couple hispanics, then about 50% Asian, 50% White.
pretty much every online application I submit asks for gender, and race, etc. I usually skip over it.
I believe it has to do with EEOC guidlines and such and to meet diversity requirements, and get funding.
Either way I dont see how it has anything to do with my abilities.
I think they can depend on what the person does. The black man may be a great employee but the young blonde is a screw-up. Eventually no matter what the looks are, a screw up's days are numbered.
I think the end result of discrimination can vary. I mean getting all WAPS can cause problems because they all think the same and become complacent while being diverse could cause a problem because you have to accept views from everyone and be more inclusive. Both can be good and bad.
Running a mini fraternity is not a good way to do business. This is why we have the problems with the economy and society as a whole we see today.
Discrimination is not necessarily a death by shot to the head.. its more like bleeding to death by a thousand cuts.
Consider Chick-Fil-A with their recent anti-gay attack. Sure.. they're still in business.. but they have lost customers they will never get back. They have lost potential employees, managers, and executives that might have helped the business grow.
Discrimination is like cancer in a business. If it doesn't kill it.. it stunts its growth. The more inclusive you are the better off you are. The image of a business is often just as important as its inner workings.

Chick-Fil-A lost a number of customers, companies who will do business with them and potential employees but at the same time it is very Christian faith based for the fast food industry.
Discrimination is not always a bad thing but it is hardly ever a good thing.

Nope. I will freely admit that I have them, just like everyone else. But I try to be conscious of them so that I can try not to let them interfere with decision making.

It has nothing to do with it.
There are no diversity requirements (as in quotas), and the hiring officials never see the information you put on the form.
