A family member had to be fingerprinted for a background check recently and the employer called and told this person they would have to do it again because the prints were illegible. When I asked this person where they had it done, they said it was a processing center under contract to perform this service. What I found odd was this person also said the tech didn't really fingerprint him the way I have been trained to do so.

In my experience, the tech takes the persons fingers, with no assistance from them, and rolls the fingers on to the ink card, or does the same using the new live scan technology. My family member said the tech just provided him the card and verbal direction on how to fingerprint himself. Listening to this, there is no surprise the prints were illegible. I have never heard of this practice and am curious if this is common, or if this tech was just incompetent.

My younger son needs to be fingerprinted in his line of work. They do use third party companies who use old fashioned ink pad and card. Maybe the tech was new. It's nothing to be concerned with.

I have been fingerprinted with ink and via live scan, but I also remember working for a company where we would also give cards and have them get them done themselves (but they had to go to a professional to have them done). Granted, I have fingerprinted many friends for them just to save them money.

I went to my local police station. A police officer fingerprinted me twice using the ink method. I was required to submit two sets of fingerprints in case one was not usable. I think it only cost me $6.00 because I was a local resident.

I've been fingerprinted multiple times, I think 8 altogether. The tech has always rolled my fingers across the paper or screen.

And even if they didn't, there is an audible sound (using the electronic method) when the print takes and is ok for use.

I've been fingerprinted a few times... even to volunteer in the local school.

I have been finger printed multiple times for employment and driver's license.

For employment, the tech always takes my fingers to make the print.

At the drive license office, they use a scanning machine. The employee never touched my hands.

I thought the driver license would be more careful, in case of bad prints. I guess not.

Many times since 2009, but always with the electronic scan, not ink. Just sounds low budget.
