The rest of the background information is for clearance, or even just public trust. They may have a policy of clearing you for a certain level, but only grant you a lower level. They won't grant you access to much of the job until you clear, but you can start the job and begin training while they do the in-depth analysis.
If this is your first BI, even a public trust BI may take up to 9 months or more. If you've had a BI, and the information is transferable, then it should take less than 6 months.
If you read the Department of Defense appeals, you'd notice that no one is appealing loss of clearance for being fired from a previous job. However, they do lose their clearance if it's determined they intentionally withheld information or lied.
Yeah, as a federal employee; I doubt very seriously if you will lose your employment based on being fired from previous job. Just be honest; especially with your dates of employment. They are just trying to verify. Honesty is the key.
