Can anyone please recommend a reputable online pre-employment background check service?

I'm really curious to see what prospective employers might be seeing about me when they pull up my background.

I get nervous about entering my Social Security number onto just any random website that I've googled, so that's why I'm asking this question here. Hoping for some good suggestions. Also, will I have to pay a fee, or is there a good free background check service? Thanks.

why not just go to the former hr and ask for a copy of your records?

The company I used to work for is gone.

I'd like to do a complete background check on myself, just out of curiosity. There's got to be a trustworthy website I can use?
