Hi,

So I'm sorry that I'm posting about this again, but it has been since 7/20/15 since my conditional job offer from Target. They said I have to pass a background check to begin employment. I understand that, however, I don't see why it should take 5 weeks. I just did a background check on Checkmate and I came back clean, so I don't understand why it should have any issues. I have called 3 times since then, and they have still said the same answer "you still haven't cleared yet". I do not want to call again because I do not want to seem like a pest. I should also note that I have only been in Florida for 1 year, I moved from Colorado which I lived there all of my life. Is it possible that they had to check my Colorado background and that could possibly be the reason on why it's taking so long? Should I just start applying for new jobs? I'm just not sure what to do here.

You don't have a job offer. You should continued to look for work until you get an offer in hand.
Don't stop looking until you do.

Well, they gave me a forum and everything, stating my hourly wage and everything, so I mean I guess I thought it was official.

If you have moved, they can take a lot longer, as they will have to check records in multiple jurisdictions.

I had a SF-86 security clearance go in to 3 months. At that point I called the company and declined the job because we were moving out of state. If you've moved around a lot, as we did, it takes much longer.

There is nothing you can do to speed up the process. As you mentioned, calling them again and again won't help
Meanwhile, continue searching in every direction.
Good Luck.

omg, that is way too long. You didn't mention if you were applying for a retail position or corporate, but either way, 5 weeks is way too long. I applied at target (retail) years ago and got hired within a week. Not sure what the hold up is, but I'd probably go in person and talk to a manager. Doesn't hurt to ask
