I have been offered two positions. One I'm pretty sure I will be taking.

To make a long story short, I was offered a position with Hertz at their Thousand Oaks branch. It pays twelve bucks an hour plus commission. That location had a lack of 20s and 30 year olds to live with. I couldn't find the right fit down there. So Hertz let me know a position in Goleta opened up, which is an hour and half from my parents and 50 minutes from my sister. Goleta is near a large college and housing situation seemed to work itself out, so I asked if I could get that location. Turned out I didn't even need to interview for it, I got it! I could start next week.

Long term goal is to gain sales experience at Hertz and ultimately become a manager one day some where in Southern California (pref Santa Barbara County, Riverside County, or Ventura County).

That's offer one. Offer 2 is a management trainee at Matress Firm in Fort Collins, Co. It pays a bit more, but you work weekends and some holidays.

Everyone on Glassdoor.com says matress firm is awesome, BUT where does one get their own store to manage? I'm guessing I'd have to move to another state again if I wanted to manage my store because it seems CO doesn't have many Matress firm locations. Matress Firm is not in CA.

To me, Hertz seems like the best option because I have more opportunity to move up and I'm in my home state.

However, just wondering what people think of the Matress Firm idea? Am I right getting into management for Matress Firm could take me anywhere? The nice thing about Hertz is those with BAs and who work hard can move up to management in six months to a year.

If you are happy being in California and are happy with your financial situation...stay in California.

However, if you are in need of higher pay and the 2nd job offers what you need financially...then go with that one.

I personally would go with the Hertz job based solely off the fact that it is in CA which you seem to be happy with.

good point. if im happy here and happy with my finances, better to stay. the base pay for mattress firm isn't that much higher. maybe 50 cents an hour more. Not sure where I'd make more on commission. Rental car accessories or matresses. Take your pick on that one. I think being in a tourist area I have higher odds of renting a car with the extra accessories.

If you can survive in Santa Barbara at $12/hour then go for it. Otherwise, you can live better in CO.
