Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED and one year of customer service experience OR Bachelors Degree required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge:
Bachelor's Degree preferred or 2 years of work and/or customer service related experience preferred.

So what do the want? Don't you need a high school diploma to even have a bachelors degree?

So are you telling me I can have a one year and a bachelors but you prefer two years and a bachelors?

I see this on so many job postings and its just confusing.

The minimum is High School Diploma or GED and one year of customer service experience OR Bachelors Degree, without that you will not be considered.

They prefer a Bachelor's, and/or two years experience, so the applicant with the BA and two years is going to have a big advantage. All job announcements I see have the minimum and preferred. Until recently we have always gotten plenty of applicants with the preferred or even better, though lately it's more often having to select someone with just the minimum, and many applications are rejected for not meeting that.

They are pretty much saying, the more education and experience you have the better, and the minimum is HS with a year of experience.

they have their minimum requirements (first section); and their preferred (ideal) requirements in the second. Meaning at a minimum you must have a year of experience and HS diploma or a Bachelors; but they would prefer a candidate with a Bachelor's degree (instead of HS); or 2 years exp (vs 1 year)

Why? Because they are explaining what they want. It means exactly what it says.

Basically it is a quick removal from the job applicant pool. The company is basically looking for that but will accept the minimum especially if you are an internal applicant.

They won't hire with the minimum qualifications. Especially not when Bachelor's Degrees have become the new High School Diploma.

Yes but at the same time a number of jobs it overqualifies you when you have a bachelor's degree as well...

I get hired over and over again for jobs as a college drop-out in his 40's. Many of my co-workers have no degree and are making $100k+. I have interviewed new co-workers for my team. I have give my boss the thumbs up on more than 1 candidate without a degree.

I would say the original poster still has a chance.

Crazy how a customer service job now expects someone with a degree. For this one they say either or but the fact they even list the degree on there as an option is nuts. You don't need a bachelors degree let alone even a high school disploma to perform those job tasks. This job probably pays less than 15/hr with no overtime. Just again proves where our economy is heading. We've shifted from a producer economy to a service economy.
