Hi guys I have a huuuge question. So about 2 weeks ago, I got an interview because my friend who works there said they were hiring quickly to fill a position. Well, at first, it seemed to go really well just because my friend had already told her work about me coming to apply there and her coworkers were excited and her boss even came up to me first to introduce himself while I was waiting to grab an application and I got interviewed right away and was sent for my drug and background screening right then and there. Keep in mind there is another girl who walked in to apply but it didn’t seem like she was very...caring for the job and at any rate, they had two open positions and we were the only two applicants. Seems to be good signs, right? Well, it’s been about two weeks now, and during the drug screening, they tell you right then and there if you passed which I did. So I call after 2 days and they say they’re still waiting for bg check to pass. Fair. I wait a week and call again, and he says the same thing, but sounds more annoyed. So the next day, that girl I came in with STARTS her first day (my friend told me) and now I’m freaking out like maybe I didn’t pass my background?? So I call the next day after that, but my phone wigs out so he can’t hear me through my speaker so I call again when I fix it but he lets it go to voicemail. Left a message and my friend who works there decided to ask him about my application and he said he’d call me and that he has my number. So I’m waiting with no call and then I get MY background check copy in the mail and I check it and there’s NOTHING wrong. I literally passed my drug and background and I still have not been contacted so what could their excuse be?? I even emailed him and he’s just being unresponsive now. Could they have just changed their mind about me and if so, why don’t they tell me? I would just like to know for the satisfaction of knowing just because now, I’m pretty sure I didn’t get it cuz it’s been so long with no excuse.
Well I'd say it's pretty rare to not get a job after passing the background check. Did you actually get an offer and sign it? It is always possible that something changed like the job fell through, is getting pushed back, etc., and they are trying to buy time. It's probably nothing personally about you. Or even more likely is that you got it but are overreacting. Let us know what happened.
Sounds like you were badgering them too much and sounding too desperate, so they pulled the plug on you. You can't keep calling and emailing like that.
Did you have to give personal references? Maybe they can't get ahold of the people. That held a lot of people up in my workplace. No one answers their phone anymore.
I don't know what happened, but four calls and an email over the span of two weeks was way too much.
