I have a question for the group. I'm a sales professional currently looking for a new job. I find in a lot of interviews, the interviewer spends a lot of time on learning how I prospect for new business and cultivate the selling process.

While I want to demonstrate competency, I don't want to give too much away as it has taken me years to develop a style and method that works.

If I divulge too little, then it seems that I am not competent but at the same time I don't want the interviewer to write down my methods and pass it along to their team. They need to hire me at the very least before I start giving away my methods

How do you balance this scenario?

Give like 10 testimonials from prominent people in the industry in which you sell for.

So if you are a B2B SaaS Business development manager right, get recommendations for how you upsold an account 10x in a row on more expensive in depth packages that required increase billable hours.

Tell them you would be glad to show them how you do it once you start the job. If you have prominent references (especially from competitors) that should be enough.

That's a good idea!

Shift the convo to results instead of methods. Keep any discussion of your way of doing things general - "I stay organized" "I see every interaction as an opportunity" etc, etc. "I must be doing something right because I landed $X last year"...
