so far I have not been made an offer by companies in my industry after being let go. Do you think that it would be easier to be hired as a contractor?

Yes, it can be easier to get hired as a contractor.

Don't indicate you were let go for performance. Phrase the departure as company restructuring or new management. I have been fired a few times. I never admit it.
