I'm beginning to look for a job & use Indeed or company websites, if I want to apply to a certain company... but, also put up a profile on LinkedIn as people have contacted me through that site. But, I'm always searching new & improved ways to job search, interviewing or CV tips, etc & came across an article that said the dating site, Bumble, has a professional networking section to the site.

I looked at the site but have to join & post pics to get info & want to ensure what I'm signing up for before I do. It's a new one to me that dating sites also offer professional networking.

Has anyone used Bumble for networking purposes only?

Being unfamiliar with dating sites, I never heard of Bumble & don't even know if it were more a hookup site like Tinder or if professionals genuinely use it as a means to form or add to their pro network. I'm not interested in the dating portion... I'm only looking for a job or to connect with those in my industry.

I'd appreciate any info, experiences or articles you may have read. Thank you.

Are you looking outside of Des Moines?
Assuming not, the people you need to meet & greet are your neighbors.

I don't understand your reply Re: my question. Have you used that app for networking?

A couple of my single girlfriends are active on Bumble for dating and if their networking function is 10x better it would still be awful and a waste of time.

I can't speak about Bumble, but I can tell you that the things you have to do to fully optimize your LinkedIn profile and increase your chances of being found by recruiters (company or 3rd party) hinges on keyword density and diversity across the entirety of your profile, but particularly in the Headline, Job Title(s), and Skills sections. One of my colleagues, Austin Belcak, has put out a lot of free content you may find helpful.

The 2023 numbers shared with me recently indicate that 87% of recruiters are using the LinkedIn Recruiter app to find candidates. Also, I learned recently that more companies are choosing not to post opportunities online and go the recruiter route, because they don't want to be inundated with responses they don't have the manpower to screen. LinkedIn isn't my favorite platform -- and I think they really jumped the shark when they added the Like button and moved it more in the direction of social networking vs. a professional networking platform -- but there's no question they're a huge channel that can't be ignored if you're looking for new job opportunities.

Lol. It was hard to wrap my head around being on a dating site for job networking, but I didn't want to miss an opportunity if it was some new bent on finding a job.

I had several friends years ago who would try to talk all their single friends into getting online, but when you'd ask if they had any luck, met any good men or even had any dates, 100% of the time the reply was no. Never could figure out why they wanted everyone else to join.

This is very helpful, thank you so much. I also appreciate the info & link.

I'm changing the scope of my position I'm looking for so working this weekend on building new Indeed & LinkedIn profiles.
