Anyone here think this has any truth to it?
In the past 4 weeks my local Newspaper has flipped on this at least once a week.
Is this just a prediction based on the Holiday season where millions of people "in the spirit" most likely maxed out credit cards?
Those same people being recently unemployed or future unemployed?

From the article it doesn't appear to be based on holiday spending. It says based on job openings, initial filings for unemployment, and business capital expenditures that drive hiring.

I think it is a reasonable prediction, an improving economy tempered by continued problems with high unemployment, housing slump, and credit. I'm not sure if the word "boom" they use in the headline is really appropriate though.

It's looking like the company I work for will be expanding our workforce by as much as 25% in 2011.

We're (loosely) planning over 50% expansion by 2012.

i think it's inevitable that there might be a hiring boom, but it may not be enough to absorb new entrants into the workforce and the unemployed. I see unemployment staying around 9% for the year. There are still a lot of question marks in thsi economy right now.

economies are cyclical. it is certainly possible that we could have a small uptick in hiring for a year or two, while following a generally downward course for the longer term (5, 10 years).

in other words, things were really looking up in 1931.

I hope this is true since I'll be graduating with a Master's soon. However, I heard 2010 was supposed to be booming with jobs as well. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.
