I just finished watching the video below concerning efforts to build a third temple and wanted to know the opinions of those who choose to give theirs. Will it happen? Should it happen? Do you want it to happen? If it is built what will it mean for Judaism?

We are ready to build the THIRD TEMPLE!

I haven't watched the video, as it's getting a bit late where I live. But I'll respond to your request for people's opinions...

I don't think we can (or possibly even should) expect to see the Third Temple until the coming of the Messianic Age. In any case, I am not at all keen on the restoration of animal sacrifices, which come with the Temple. I like to imagine a Messianic Age when not only humans, but also all the earth's creatures, will be at peace with each other.

Just my personal opinion!

Yes, it will (and should) happen. Whether it descends from heaven complete, or is the function of human builders, or the former happens when we have done enough of the latter, I don't know. But I'm looking forward to it.

From what I understand that would only happen after the arrival of the Messiah and nobody knows when that will happen.

Thank you, Rachel. I agree with you about the animal sacrifices.

You're welcome, Michael. It's gratifying to see a Christian asking Jews for their opinions on matters that Christians may see differently from us. I know that Timothy Rabinek, who made that video you posted, is a member of an evangelical Christian group called Friends of Israel. While we certainly need all the friends we can get, please forgive me if I'm somewhat leery of evangelicals who preach to Jews.

As for the restoration of animal sacrifice with the re-building of the Temple... While Jews pray and hope for the earthly or unearthly restoration of the Temple, the historical, accompanying prayers for the restoration of Temple animal sacrifice are not particularly stressed nowadays by Jews in general. Orthodox and Conservative prayerbooks may still retain these prayers (out of tradition), while Reform and Reconstructionist prayerbooks omit them entirely.

Please know that this is merely my own understanding of the issue of animal sacrifice in conjunction with the restoration of the Temple. I am not a rabbi.

Edited to add: I did watch that video you posted, and noted that at both the beginning and end of it Timothy Rabinek focused on the breeding program for "perfect red heifers" for Temple animal sacrifice. I particularly noted at the end of the video (showing the transported young cows in tight crates) that Rabinek stated that "some believe that when the perfect [sacrificial] candidate will be found, the building of the Temple will begin."

For me, it will be when Moshiach arrives that the Temple will also -- not when the perfect sacrificial animal is bred by humans.

I didn't realize that the person who made the video was an evangelical Christian. The video came up along with many other videos when I got on YouTube and it looked interesting so I watched it.

Well, I know that sooner or later, in some way or another, the 3rd temple will be a reality. Hopefully sooner rather than later. My wish is peace for Israel.

Thanks again Rachel for expressing your views.
