About an hour ago i almost took shelter in a drainage culvert from a tornado out in front of our office. Tornado changed directions and headed for my house 10 miles away. Touched down 2 miles west and then again 1.3 miles north of my house. Rain gauge didn't even show a drop. One mile east or south got about 2 inches in minutes.

That's scary stuff I am glad you are alright.

We were down in the basement parking garage at work for about an hour. The nasty storm that dropped tornados in OP came right over us in Westwood/West Plaza -- thankfully it was all A-OK, but I'll admit I'm much more on edge than usual.

We're all on edge these days, Aragx6, after Joplin. I'm in STL, and we are supposed to get hit @3:00 pm. with the strong chance of EF2+ tornadoes. Weather announcers are saying "get food, blankets ready", "go to the ATM" and "get important papers together." Could we just have an ICE STORM, please!

Glad you are safe to tell the tale. They were not far from me either, I could see the rotation of several clouds but not the touchdown as there are too many mature trees in my area to see much sky except down the roadways. Friggin' sirens went off for at least 45 minutes, weather radio every couple of minutes.

I hope by now everyone with a basement has a "bug out bag" in it with spare clothes/shoes, flashlight, first aid kit, money, etc. as well as some water and food down there so should their house get wiped off the foundation they still have something. For gosh sakes put on some sturdy shoes when the sirens go off so you are not walking about debris in flip flops!

Just saying.........

Superb advice MO gal. Wouldn't have thought of any of it, so I'm glad to have your "Lifelong" experience to benefit from.

You haven't lived until you've spent an hour in close shelter quarters with a bunch of children with behavioral disorders and sensory issues.

Now I have to sit and wait for it to pass through St. Louis -- where 95% of the people I love in this world are.

It's actually kinda worse than being in it yourself.

I'd be volunteering to be just outside the shelter doors watching the sky, thank you! Of course I'm a bit claustrophobic under conditions such as you describe.

Sounds like you and the other teachers deserve a prize! Are you at Marillac Academy?
