Many would say yes.

Sexual orientation doesn't matter much anymore in most major cities, KC included.

Now I suppose you could measure 'acceptance' based on domestic partner benefits. I think Colorado rejected it, so does that make it 'ungay friendly'? I'm pretty sure KCMO City Govt provides domestic partner benefits to city employees, KC does have a registration. Not sure about other city govts in metro but more and more workplaces provide domestic partner benefits, including where I work.
Well, Colorado now has Civil Unions, which are the exact same thing as marriage at the state level. Although we didn't vote on it, polls showed overwhelming support for civil unions, and recent polls (by Public Policy Polling) show 51% of Coloradans support same sex marriage. In Kansas, support for same sex mariage is at 39% and Missouri is at 36%. CO is definitely more tolerant overall, and I feel quite comfortable living in Denver.
