looking for advise.....we are in our mid 40's with 2 boys 8 & 10....big into baseball and basket ball. Have an opportunity to move to Kansas City or Charlotte NC. Looking for advice on best cities/towns to raise our kids. Would love to live in a place where neighbors get together and "hang out" and kids can play in a safe environment. We lived in Allen TX (Dallas) and now Brighton (Ann Arbor/Detroit)but cant make a decent living here and Detroit tops Forbes List of Most Violent Cities in the US. We dont want to have to uproot our family again....looking for a place to call home for the next 30 yrs....any advice on Kansas City would be Greatly Appreciated!!

Ex-Texan familes I know tend to feel most comfortable in Johnson County KS (aka JoCo - Overland Park, Lenexa, Leawood) or KC North area (check Riverside and Parkville in MO) or Briarcliff hood. JoCo has a lot more high end retail of every kind but is very generic cookie cutter suburbs - think Plano or Orange County LA. Riverside/Parkville are less cookie cutter with old quaint town center, quicker access to downtown/airport with bluffs/river and nicer topology. Liberty area might also be of interest.
