My wife and I are relocating to the overland park area from California because I recieved orders to be a recruiter there for the Marine Corps. We need some suggestions on some decent cheaper neighborhoods to rent in that aren't too far away because we both will probably be working there and we will be needing to commute to board our horses somewhere in the area as well. We have a few dogs so in the sticks would be nice but trying to find rentals that isolated is hard.

You may be looking for something that may not exist in Overland Park proper. OP is a very built up and affluent suburb. You might try a little further out like Spring Hill or Gardner in Kansas or Cass County on the Missouri side. Those areas will get you out of the more built up suburban areas and their homes associations and put you into more affordable areas that would be closer to rural or less developed areas where you would have more freedom and be closer to ranches and what not.

Western Wyandotte County and southern Leavenworth County on the west side of the metro seems to be "horse country" and that area is not that affluent so you wouldn't pay country club prices to board horses like you will in the south part of the metro. So you might look into western Lenexa or Shawnee or even western Wyandotte County like Bonner Springs for rental homes that would put you between Overland Park and some of the horse places out west. You would probably have better luck with your dogs issue out there too.

The OP may be able to find places to board his horses near Belton, MO if renting in S. OP as well.
