I am going to a concert tonight at the Sprint Center and I have never driven downtown so I am kind of nervous. I will be relying on my GPS the whole time and not knowing where to park is making me a complete nervous wreck. I do not mind walking a ways if need be.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks!!

Underneath the Power and Light block across the street, or in the parking garage catty-corner to the Sprint Center.

Both garages are accessed off of 13th.

If you want to be close, access the P&L Live garage from 13th between Grand/Walnut. It's one way so go to Grand and then W on 13th, first left. There is another P&L garage next to Consentino's Market that you can access from Main or Walnut between 12th/13th. Another garage is under the H&R Block building which is on Main between 13th/14th. There are dozens of other places to park for less. Most nearby garages charge $10 for arena events but there are ways to get into P&L garages for less (tell them you are just going to a P&L restaurant).

Like Brew said, Crossroads parking is mostly free and only a few blocks walk.

I am so nervous about driving downtown that I want to avoid driving too far from the Sprint Center.

Right now, I am planning on parking at the parking garage catty corner from the Sprint Center. I heard you had to be 21 to even get into the P&L District and I am only 18 so I am kind of weary about parking there.

Do you guys think that the parking garage would be a good place to park? Will it be full quickly? Thanks!

Relax. You will be fine. You are probably better off parking at Town Pavilion garage. It's close, it's simple (parking under P&L District might be a little confusing to you) and it's above ground so you never lose orientation of where you are. Then after you learn the area better, you can look at the other options. Just look for the giant "P" signs.

What part of town are you coming from? If you give that, you can get exact directions on how to park at the Town Pavilion garage from somebody here, but it has main entrance right on Grand.

For others:

Do they still close off Grand before events or just after them? Is the huge city garage at 12th and Oak open for sprint events? I have often parked right on grand north of 13th for free for special events and rarely even have to look south of 670 or north of 12th. Although I would probably park in the crossroads before going too much north and east. Seems a little sketchy near the bus stops at night along 12th or Grand in the northern parts of downtown.

I am actually from out of town. I live about 90 miles away. I will be coming into KC from I-35.

You mentioned something about closing off Grand before events? That would throw off my whole route because I planned to take Grand up to 13th and use the garage right there on the corner.

To get home I was going to take Main to Truman and get back on 35 from there.

Does that sound like a good way to go or would there be a better way?

If you are coming from 35 south of the metro, then just follow the 35 North signs and get off on 12th street and you can take that to the 12th St entrance of that garage or turn right on Grand from 12th and enter it via Grand. That will keep you from all the congestion at the Broadway exit (everybody from KS uses that exit and it gets congested) and all the congestion between the Convention Center area and the Sprint Center (again, that's where everybody sort of goes and they just follow each other into ridiculous traffic jams for no reason). You would also avoid any closures on Grand and be able to enter the garage with a right turn rather than a left.

When you leave I would go north on Grand or Main and enter the freeway loop up there again avoiding the cluster F of everybody trying to go down 14th etc. If you exit the garage via 12th or Walnut, you will also get out of the garage 30-45 minutes faster as everybody else waits to exit onto 13th or Grand.

My suggestion to someone nervous about driving downtown is to find Grand and just drive down it till you find a place to park. I have yet to go to an event at the Sprint Center and not park right off Grand. That way you know where you are and not too far away.
