Since you seem to know, what distinguishes a redneck like you speak of in the Ozarks and Appalachians? And do you think people usually mean that when they use the word "redneck"?
Always reverting to the perceived "classism" argument with the imagined prevailing elite opinion. About half of those items listed are common in the northern tier with far less emphasis overall on Nascar, four wheeling, and mudding. Those three pastimes are far more common in the South than most of the Midwest. Going to lakes and fishing and hunting are just as popular if not more popular in the Upper Midwest compared to anywhere in the Lower Midwest. Most people from Kansas City really have no idea how nice the lakes are in much of the Upper Midwest and how much they are missing out. An overcrowded urbanite filled and murky Lake of the Ozarks just does not compare.

I will agree that having grown up with Northwoods lake country in in northern Wisconsin, Lake of the Ozarks is a pretty shabby comparison.

But "lake culture" never really was my thing, at least not as it exists here.

They are true country bumpkins and live in the hill country...on top of the characteristics you described. In addition, they are very mistrusting of outsiders.

I'm not sure what "lake culture" is even supposed to mean as it likely takes on multiple different meanings... Also, with so many different lakes to choose from in the Northwoods you don't run into the problematic issue of only relying on a few larger bodies of water which is definitely not a good thing.

You've noticed a theme. I guess you can call it classism, but really it's just bigotry. The people I refer to as elitists aren't people I actually think of as elite, but ignorant - just as much as racists. I've never known the actual elite/upper-class crowd to display such ignorance, but rather it comes from the middle class who are quite frankly working-class people who aren't so humble. I'm not sure if those I call elitists carry shame and embarassment of their roots and therefore are trying to counteract or distance themselves from them and make sure they're not mistaken as such by spewing hateful rhetoric, or if they just have a need to be better than somebody else in general (similar to racism), or what.

I understand what it means. Seems like a simple concept. But I'm not going to try to explain.

What you're describing beyond what I said, to me, is what distinguishes a hick, yokel, or hermit culture, and doesn't necessarily make them any more "redneck".

I'm fairly certain Northwoods "lake culture" is quite a bit different than "lake culture" in Missouri based on what I've seen, although certain unfortunate "themes" can overlap.

Most people on table rock lake are there to fish and have a laid back good time. Most people at Lake of the Ozarks are from Kansas City and St. Louis, and just looking to get drunk for the weekend.

Ah, I see...you don't like people from KC and STL. Good. There's a lot more of us that don't like you than there are that don't like us in far Southern Missouri.

I guess it depends on your perspective. Either way, I wouldn't say KC has trailer trash rednecks.
