I find it odd you wouldn't be worried about crime at night. I would be. I mostly would be concerned about employees who may be coming or going at night, especially during a time when few others would be around. You might also worry about being broken into, etc. I wonder if there are any actual people making decisions actually only care about daytime crime and not what happens in the area of their business at night.

Most businesses of notable size have pretty serious security arrangements no matter where they're located. If you expect to have employees coming and going at night, I think you'll have a security guard on the premises, along with multiple parking lot and building-mounted cameras. This is all true in the suburbs or the city.

But in the city, if you locate your business in a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood, that means you'll have restaurants, bars, shops and residences all within a 1 or 2-block radius. So there will be activity well into the evening. Security monitoring is still wise, of course, but as a business owner I would be much more comfortable with employees coming and going throughout the evening if the office was located in a lively neighborhood than if it was in an office park that dies at 6 pm.

It would be foolish to do without security arrangements in any part of any metropolitan area. Maybe (maybe) in the country or a small town you would be ok, but any urban OR suburban location necessitates at minimum a security system, and probably a security service as well. I don't think either of these things amounts to a "serious" level of security precautions.

Remember, no matter what kind of neighborhood you live in, you're going to have troublemakers around. Sometimes these are "urban thugs" from a few miles away, and sometimes they're just bored teenagers trying to impress each other.
