Any hope that the bridge be saved?

I occasionally use the bridge on my commute to school from the North, depending on how bad the traffic is on the multiple routes I can take to get to school. I don't mind it being replaced I just worry that it will, during construction, revert the traffic back to 29/35 southbound and MO-9 southbound. In any case, I don't have any emotional attachment to the bridge. It is just a "meh" bridge all things considered. And the stoplights getting off or onto the bridge gets really backed up during rush hour.

Transform it into a park. business center, education center, food courts etc over the MO and it becomes a destination.

As long as the new bridge has an interesting superstructure holding it up. I'm good with it being replaced. The new bridge should have pedestrian access, bike lanes etc too.

Now if they replace it with boring girder freeway bridge then that would suck. I can't image the city not building a signature bridge there though.

I like the old Broadway Bridge but there is nothing all that special about the bridge itself. If KC had a decent transit system, it could have been saved and used for light rail, but I don't think KC is going to ever build anything more than streetcars.

I think it's silly that the city and modot are spending millions to work on the bridge right before tearing it down, but they did the same thing with the Paseo Bridge.

If they do a new bridge, they might as well go all the way and change the North end. Id like to see it be direct with the west loop. Makes the North loop even more pointless, so all the more reason to get rid of it.
