I will likely be taking a job with an educational staffing company this coming summer/fall of 2019, and moving to the KC area. I have visited KC many times over the years, falling in love with the area, and am thrilled to have an opportunity to relocate there. Amazing what a gem of a city you have. Anyhow as for location budget ect. Due to state regulations, and my certification I will need to work, as well as live on the MO side. The good news is that I have several options of districts to choose from including Liberty, North KC, Lees Summit, Blue Springs, and Grandview. I am a single male in my late 20s, but am a fairly quiet person who comes from a suburban upbringing in northern NJ. Budget is admittedly tight. Looking in the range of $600-750 a month. Safety is important, and if possible a walk-able neighborhood. Otherwise I'm very flexible. Thank you for your advice. I'm really looking forward to get to know the KC area better. I will be making a couple trips out there over the next several months.

I think your best bet would be North Kansas City. Just to clarify, this is the city of North Kansas City, not Kansas City North, or the Northland. Of those choices, NKC would likely offer the best walkabilty - it's downtown area seems to really be taking off lately. It is also affordable, although still might be tight on your budget. The location is fairly central with easy access to Downtown Kansas City.

You might also look around Downtown Lee's Summit or the Liberty Square, although I would personally put those below NKC. I would probably pass on either Grandview or Blue Springs.

Thanks. I've actually been leaning that way as the school system seems very good in NKC, and I like how close it is to downtown KC. It also seems like one has at least solid options when getting into the $750-$800 range there. Will be sure to Check out Lees Summit as well, as subbing for a top tier district is preferred.

I loved living in downtown Lee's Summit.

I don't know about walkability, but Liberty is nice and there's lots of new building going on up there and it's a top rated school district. Pretty much the same for Lee's Summit. I agree with passing on Grandview.
