Hello,
We are contemplating moving from the Twin Cities, MN area to Liberty, MO. My husband has a customer in MO that he visits frequently AND we need to be relatively close to KC airport as he travels quite often. My job is work from home, so not an issue there. We are mid-fifties, almost empty nesters. We visited Liberty recently and fell in love with it. We are searching for an older home that has already been updated. Is there anything that we would need to know about the older homes in Liberty? Any issues with construction, etc? Traffic, one way streets, etc? This will probably be our last move and retirement area so any information would be appreciated. We have friends that live in the country (Braymer) area so we know some people there but they are not as familiar with Liberty. We like the housing prices and tax rates, especially after living in the twin cities for 8 years. We actually do like living in the TC but this area is not conducive to our budget for retirement. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

As with anything else, there is probably no way to generalize anything with all of them so you'll have to judge on a house by house basis.

The Liberty area is a pretty straightforward suburb. Standard traffic. It gets nasty during rush hour because I-35 is only 4 lanes (2 lanes each way) and it got nuts when Highway 152 was closed off. Otherwise, it's you're standard suburb and don't believe there's any one way street problems (not quite sure what that means). Has a nice golf and tennis club and all the standard retail. Only thing it lacks is decent dining honestly. Too many chain stores and restaurants. Overall, it's easy going, safe, and if you are planning to stay within the Northland area, traffic isn't really an issue.

No significant flags I can think of that would be specific to Liberty.

The recent improvements to the 152 bridge over I-35 have made a big difference. We were headed eastbound a couple weeks ago on a Saturday evening and made it from Flintlock all the way over I-35 with no red lights.

Now they need to fix that intersection by the new movie theaters.

Liberty is a great town. Chains box stores along 152 and a charming downtown as well. 35 stinks but it’s close to the airport and downtown.

I have two family members, who are William Jewell grads, and they both speak highly of it, and Liberty. Only 900 students or so, which is kind of small to add a lot of fun stuff to the community. I have my eyes out for older, cheap bungalows there. Seen a few trailers..too bad.
