I know you aren't crazy about city living, but I just wanted to tell you about where I live. I live about two blocks west of the Plaza on Roanoke and 48th. The benefit of living and renting here is that the architecture of these building is fantastic. I have all hardwood floors, ornate intracacies that are remnants of the 1920s (when my building was constructed), high cielings, a 4th floor view of the Plaza, and many other "accents" that are just wonderful.

My neighborhood is very safe. I have never had a problem. Just thought I would present an alternative. Just in case.

Default Lenexa

I can speak for Lenexa and Olathe. We lived in Olathe for about 4 years before moving to Lenexa. Olathe was OK, but you do get some rougher charatcters, but I really like Lenexa. Best of both worlds--we are at College and Pflumm, so we are super close to everything, businesses, mall, restaurants, highways, etc but still in the suburbs. I really like it here. We are actually relocating for my husband's, so that is the only reason that we are moving. Hey, if you know of anyone looking for homes (4 bed, 2.5 bath, built in the 80's but every room renovated, $240-250 range) in Lenexa, let me know!

Well wouldn't you know it!? I posted my original thread a while ago. Since then, my wife and I have been out to the area to find a place. The place we settled on is also near College and Pflumm! We thought it seemed quiet enough, yet as you say so close to everything. We're moving in less than a month now, and we can't wait to get out of New York State.

Call me paranoid, but I'd rather not say -- just 'cause there are weirdos out there who read these things. I figure we'll have a big enough bull's-eye on us the first couple of weeks while we're still driving around with New York plates on our cars.

Suffice it to say that we looked at places on all sides -- Shawnee, Blue Springs, Overland Park, and Gladstone. My wife and I liked some of the places in Shawnee, but we just felt the area was a little too busy. As I said in my original post, we're not city people. Being "outsiders", I don't know if our perception is totally correct, but when we visited, the College/Pflumm area just seemed to feel more relaxed.
